Dairy co-ops have launched a major new farm safety drive as farmers expand to take advantage of the end of the milk quotas in April.
It’s a sad fact that 30 people including 5 children were killed on Irish farms in 2014, that’s almost double the numbers of 2013!
Farm accidents are more common on busier farms with machinery and animals being a major factor. There are approximately 2000 farm accidents each year, with 75% of all accidents being associated with Livestock, Machinery and Trips and falls.
FBD Chairman Michael Berkery said “the recent increase in farm deaths was a tragedy for the families and communities involved. FDB is commited to maintaining this increased focus on safety in the future and hopes to see a reversal in the levels of accidents and fatalities in 2015”
