The Irish government has just signed off on new legislation which will see schools and sports clubs storing devices such as epi pens, these can be used to quickly treat life threatening allergic reactions such as Anaphylactic Shock!
From now on properly trained members of the public will be allowed to administer these medications when faced with these sorts of emergency situations.
Up until now no one except medically trained personnel were permitted to give these pens but Minister Varadkar has just signed off the new legislation which will also enable pharmacists to administer vaccines for Shingles and Pneumonia, which may save patients a trip to the G.P.
Anyone interested in training to use these pens should check out Demack Safety’s upcoming FETAC level 5 Occupational First Aid Courses. Click here for details on dates and venues.
