Approved Handheld Pesticide Application Course

Background

From 26th November 2015, only users on the DAFM Register of Professional Users of Pesticides may apply professional grade pesticides in Ireland. Our handheld pesticide application course is QQI approved, and will enable candidates to register for the DAFM Register of Professional Users of Pesticides.

Course Aim:

This course aims to provide candidates with the required skills and knowledge to safely prepare and operate a hand held pesticide applicator in accordance with the principles of Integrated Pest Management and applicable legislation.

Upon completion, candidates will understand the laws and regulations pertaining to poisonous substances and be capable of adhering to them while preparing, calibrating, using and storing a hand-held applicator.

This programme will provide learners with the correct information to be able to calculate the correct amount of pesticide to use and ensure all data has been recorded accurately.

Course Programme:

  • Why use pesticides.
  • Alternatives to Pesticides.
  • Selecting a Suitable Pesticide.
  • Handling, Storing, Application and Disposal.
  • Legislation applying to pesticides.
  • Labels, Marking and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Preparation and Calibration of a hand-held sprayer.
  • Assessment via Multiple choice paper and practical exercise.
  • This 2.5 day course is offered as a highly interactive course which is delivered to a group of 12 participants.

    Who Should Attend?

    Anybody spraying professional grade pesticides from a hand-held applicator (i.e Knapsack), including (but not limited to) farmers, local authority staff, horticulturalists, forestry workers, and contractors.

    Assessment & Certification

    Theoretical quiz and practical exercises will be completed by each participant. On successful completion of the course participants will be issued with a QQI Level 5 Certificate.
